Port of Troon
Port Information, Terminals and Facilities
(Troon, South Ayrshire, Scotland, UK)
The Associated British Ports operate and own the Port of Troon. It is the UKs most powerful ports group, and has a function as an important ferry port as well as being West Scotlands principal fishing port which is the closest to the rest of Great Britain.
Troon has one of West Scotlands most sheltered harbours and its infrastructure is efficient, boasting a trunk road system which connects the port to Scottish and English motorways.
Amenities in the Seacat Ferry Terminal include beverages vending machines and snacks, as well as a vast comfortable departure lounge. A modern new P&O Irish Sea ro-ro terminal opened in 2001. P&O Irish Sea sails twice daily on the Scotland to Ireland cargo service from Troon Harbour. Since moving to Troon the company is able to use larger ships. Addittionally P&O also operates a fast ferry service.
The marina is impressive, boasting numerous types of boats and yachts all year round. From here it is not difficult to rent a boat for a day trip or longer. The North and South Sands are large beaches backed by a sleepy resort and promenades.
