Port of Troon

Harbour Information, Terminals and Facilities
(Troon, South Ayrshire, Scotland, UK)

The Associated British Ports operate and own the Port of Troon. It is the UK's most powerful ports group, and has a function as an important ferry port as well as being West Scotland's principal fishing port which is the closest to the rest of Great Britain.

Troon has one of West Scotland's most sheltered harbours and its infrastructure is efficient, boasting a trunk road system which connects the port to Scottish and English motorways.

Amenities in the Seacat Ferry Terminal include beverages vending machines and snacks, as well as a vast comfortable departure lounge. A modern new P&O Irish Sea ro-ro terminal opened in 2001. P&O Irish Sea sails twice daily on the Scotland to Ireland cargo service from Troon Harbour. Since moving to Troon the company is able to use larger ships. Addittionally P&O also operates a fast ferry service.

The marina is impressive, boasting numerous types of boats and yachts all year round. From here it is not difficult to rent a boat for a day trip or longer. The North and South Sands are large beaches backed by a sleepy resort and promenades.

Ferry Services

In 1999 SeaCat extended its services offering a route between Troon in Scotland and Belfast in Northern Ireland. By car Glasgow is just 30 minutes from Troon, and with a crossing time of 2 hours, 30 minutes the crossing offers better convenience to day trippers and motorists. P&O Irish Sea Ferries also offer daily services between Troon and Larne in the North of Ireland.

Crossing time onboard the P&O Express fast craft is approximately 1 hour, 50 minutes. Time on board may be short but still there are pleasant facilities including a restaurant, bar, gift shop, children's play area and an accessible outside deck. The route is available from March to October.
